Calculate Your Solar Panel Size in 3 Steps
Simple DIY guide: use your electricity bill to determine if you need 3kW, 5kW, 10kW, or 15kW solar system. No calculator needed!
Step 1: Find Your Monthly Electricity Bill Amount
Look at your K-Electric bill. Find total amount paid last month.
Example: Your Monthly Bill = PKR 15,000
Step 2: Calculate Your Electricity Usage (kWh)
K-Electric charges approximately PKR 20-30 per unit (kWh)
Formula: Monthly Bill ÷ 25 = kWh
(25 is average K-Electric rate)
Your Calculation:
PKR 15,000 ÷ 25 = 600 kWh/month
Step 3: Find Your Required Solar System Size
Karachi has 5 peak sun hours per day
Formula: Monthly kWh ÷ 150 = Required kW
(150 = 5 hours × 30 days)
Your Calculation:
600 kWh ÷ 150 = 4 kW
Recommendation: 5 kW system (round up for buffer)
Quick Reference Table
| Monthly Bill | Estimated kWh | System Size | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| PKR 5-7K | 200-280 | 3kW | 2-3 rooms |
| PKR 8-12K | 320-480 | 5kW | 4-5 rooms |
| PKR 12-18K | 480-720 | 10kW | 5-6 rooms |
| PKR 18-25K | 720-1000 | 15kW | 7+ rooms |
⚠️ Important Tips
- → Add 20-30% buffer: If calculation shows 4kW, buy 5kW for future growth
- → Use highest bill month: Calculate based on May-July (peak summer)
- → AC peaks in summer: Solar should cover AC + other appliances
